Representation theory is a theory about how media makes meaning through framing, culture, and selection. It was made by Stuart Hall, and it shows how in various forms of media that people make decisions based off the lighting, emotions, setting etc.... Hall also talks about how media uses things like stereotyping, to create characters, as it simplifies character traits. It can set things up so its basically makes a hierarchy of power. Overall though the representation model creates ideas about characters through things like narrative, culture, and editing.
Me and Oliver would like to integrate this theory, as making meaning through culture connects people easily, and we feel like it would be a good addition to get the audience attached. Framing, just means that we should set up things while filming to create things like power, which in a crime related film opening is super important. We also believe selection is super important, as the opening is one of the first impressions of the movie, and we want to make a good one. Making sure we take out unnecessary things, and make our objectives clear, will make our opening easy to follow. Using these 3 things, aka the representation theory I believe we will have a good project.
