Portfolio project 2 (1/26-2/1)

Me and my partner Oliver Romero have planned to do a action based film opening. Some of my favorite action films, which I plan to learn from and take inspiration from are Spiderman no way home, endgame, and Infinity wars.

The film Spiderman no way home is centered around  MCU universe storyline. So it started with a cliff hanger from a previous movie Far from home, which exposes peter parker, and puts him and his girl friend into a sticky situation, as Spiderman is outed for being a criminal, and now the opening portrays Spiderman vs the public. In order to make and maintain suspense there is fast paced editing, with a variety of camera shots as well as a lot of diegetic sound. Overall, Spiderman is under a conflict due to his 2 lives being made into one, while being put under heavy pressure by society, which he supposedly has to solve through out the movie. What I can learn from this is that when I should edit around the environment of my scene, for example if its suspenseful, I should make fast paced edits, but if its a slow emotional scene I should slow down.

Avengers endgame, starts with Hawkeye shooting arrows with his familly, then his familly magically gets snapped away when Hawkeye is suddenly under a lot of grief. During the first few moments the colors were vibrant, and there was diegetic sounds which could associated with peace, which were calming, when all of sudden the snap happened when everything became slow emphasizing the grief. There were not as many camera shots or as fast paced as spider man no way home, but it still did its job. What I can learn about this is, the quality of the camera shots matters way more than the quantity.

Infinity wars starts with darkness, which is broken by a call continuing with a scene with a destroyed ship, showing destruction, and whats to come. The lighting in color contrast is very apparent once hulk and thanos, the opening shows hulk as a hero and thanos as some super villian which will be near impossible to stop. What I can learn from this is the introduction of the characters, is important and the opening is meant to hype up the actual movie.

Port folio project week (1/26-2/1)

In order to manage a 7-8 week long project efficiently, me and my partner Oliver Romero agreed that we should make a schedule to make sure we dont fall behind. So we made one, (it is shown above). To break it down week 1 we just look through a variety of genres to make a good choice for our project. Week 2 (this week) we planned our schedule, made a project idea and we are finishing our story board. week 3 is based around filming. Week 4 we plan to edit our first draft, and analyze for mistakes. Week 5 we reflect on our mistakes and fix them. Week 6 we finish up with out editing, and the film opening, and week 7 we do our ccr. Week 8 we have as a buffer if we dont finish anything in time.

The resources we have accounted for which are needed are, a editing soft ware such as Clip champ. We will need a camera/ smartphone for recording, we will need paper for things like our schedule and story boards. We will need a location for our recording. We may need other resources for our Foley, as we plan to integrate some of our sounds.

We plan to stick to this schedule, and these resources, but we may make changes over time based on the needs of our project.

Portfolio Project Genre #2

I am also considering action for my portfolio project, and action films are films which mostly deal with crazy stunt work, fights etc.... Some examples of action films are Deadpool and wolverine and spider man no way home. Dead pool and wolverine, has many fight scenes as well , as stunts involving explosions. Spiderman no way home also has fast paced fight scenes. Both movies have a lot of destruction as well. The typical target audience of action films are teens and young adults, who enjoy fast paced scenes with high energy through out. Some genre conventions relating to content, are fight scenes, end goals revolving around saving something, and justice. Some genre conventions revolving around technique, are again fast paced editing, non diegetic music, and visual effects with tools like CGI. Finally, some institutional conventions are continued story lines, protagonists often winning, and narratives which are simple.

Portfolio Project Genre #1

Thriller is one of my ideas for my portfolio project, and thriller is a genre based around suspense, and excitement. Thriller often is fast paced and has a lot of plot twists. Some examples of movies of thriller are Jurassic park and any of the fast and furious films. most fast and furious films are based around familly, and high intensity situations. While Jurassic park is exciting and suspenseful, due to deadly dinosaurs. Speaking of thriller, the main target audience is teens and young adults, who like suspense, mystery, and plot twists. Some genre conventions relating to content, are deadly or powerful antagonists, and protagonists who are always in risk meeting their end goals. There is also usually a strong tie with characters emotionally. Some genre conventions related to techniques are again the fast paced editing, close ups which capture emotion. Usually thriller films also have both diegetic and non diegetic sound, like sniffling, and background noises. Finally, some institutional conventions are dark coloring and cliff hangers through trailers.
